S2 E7: Alphonso Jiles
Alphonso Jiles is the Director of Instrumental Music at Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro, MD. Prior, Jiles was the Director of Bands at Frederick Douglass High School, Upper Marlboro for sixteen years. Former Minister of Music at the Temple of Praise Ministries in Washington, D.C., Jiles supervised a staff of eight with full responsibility for all music operations.
Alphonso Jiles holds several degrees, includng Ed.S in Educational Leadership (argosy University), M.S. in Organizational Leadership (Nyack College), B.M. in Music Education (Berklee College of Music), and A.A. in Jazz Studies (Wisconsin Conservatory of Music). A retired 1st Lt. in the United States Army Reserves, he is a percussion player skilled in both drums and piano.
In addition to his many musical activities, Jiles serves as the Japan Student Exchange Coordinator. For the past seven years, he has accompanied students to Japan as part of this high school exchange program.
Jiles holds membership in the following professional organizations: Gospel Music of America (GMWA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), American Band Directors Association (ABA), Maryland State Teachers Association (MSTA), Maryland Band Directors Association (MBDA), Maryland Orchestra Directors Association (MODA), National Education Association (NEA), and Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA).
