S3 E14: Jay Londgren
Jay Londgren is director of HS Bands and Jazz and Co-Chair of Visual and Performing Arts at Singapore American School. Prior to SAS he served as head of music music at Korea International School near Seoul, South Korea and prior to that he taught PreS-12 music at CIPLC in Barcelona, Venezuela. Jay also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS). Jay has been heavily involved with AMIS for the past 10 years. In addition to attending all HS Band festivals since 2011, he has presented at AMIS music educator conferences in Scotland, Thailand, Dubai, Korea and Hong Kong, served as a Jazz combo leader at the AMIS Jazz festival in Singapore and is currently on the festival adjuducation team for the 2021 online solo and ensemble festival. During his time in Korea he helped bring AMIS to both his school (KIS) and assisted colleagues at several neighbouring international schools in joining AMIS as well. Additionally, while in Korea he hlped found the Korea International Music Educators Association (KIMEA). KIMEA grew to host (and continues to host) multiple MS and HS music festivals throughout the school year in Korea. Now in his seventh year at SAS, he has recently been appointed to co-chair the visual and performing arts department at the SAS high school. COVID-19 has brought many challenges to the SAS performing arts department and Jas has worked closely with his colleagues to continually find creative ways to keep music study and music making alive and well in the SAS school community.
